”I have been a very active individual my entire life, but I've also experienced injuries that have forced me to take a back seat physically and be down and out for a while. I understand what it means to have chronic pain, reduced range of motion and emotional holding patterns. Without therapeutic massage as a vital part of my recovery, I would not be as active as I am today. This is why I am so passionate about the importance of bodywork as a tool to a healthier body.”
"I also understand the integral role of the mind in our path to wellness, and how significantly massage can benefit our mental health. Through breath and a naturally induced meditative state we can learn how to unwind, slow down, and give ourselves more space to breathe, relax and release old holding patterns that no longer serve us." - Melissa M. Berg
Melissa's multi-faceted background has provided her with a dynamic foundation for massage therapy. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Her experience in several research labs and interest in holistic wellness led her to the newer field of Positive Psychology and the study of “mental health” rather than “mental illness”. This is what led Melissa to the mind-body connection, and the role that therapeutic touch and bodywork plays in our overall health as human beings.
After discovering that academia was not where she wanted to take her career, she decided to attend the Sedona School of Massage to become a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2019. Her keen interest in the sciences, especially anatomy and kinesiology, has fueled her desire to understand as much as she can about the body and its integrated systems in order to fulfill her intention to work with people one on one in enhancing their overall health. She continues to bolster her education and has completed additional training in the modalities of myofascial release, facial massage and craniosacral therapy.
Melissa believes that as a therapist one must continue to strive to deepen the understanding of self in order to be more present for clients and their needs. With an active practice of movement arts and meditation she continues to manage pain and rehabilitate body, mind and spirit, embodying the full role of Bodyworker and nourishing her practice within and out.
"My hope is for my clients to experience the best that I have to offer utilizing all of the tools, knowledge and experience that I have acquired along my own journey. I highly value the therapeutic relationship with open communication, and invite my clients to engage and take an active role in their own treatment plan."
